The Solbergs

Your mind often tricks your heart.

Just because you think something doesn’t affect you, doesn’t mean it’s true. Your mind often tricks your heart.

Isabelle grew up in a more stable home environment than I did. Saying goodbye to family and friends can be hard for her.

Me? I’ve been accustomed to goodbyes since childhood. When someone asked recently if it’s hard for me, my first response was, “No, I’m used to it.”

But on reflection, I realize:

Just because my mind says it’s normal, doesn’t mean it is.

Thinking it doesn’t affect me doesn’t mean it doesn’t deep down.

So…… we need to make sure we take time to sit with our emotions, even the uncomfortable ones.

Talk to someone you trust about how you’re really feeling.

Remember, it’s okay to feel sad about goodbyes, no matter how many you’ve experienced.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” – Jeremiah 17:9

Our experiences shape us, but they can also blind us to our own emotions.

Take time to check in with your heart, not just your head.
